Monte

It’s a little past 7, and this is the first evening after a little more than a week of being in my new apartment that I’m actually feeling a little bored. I’m tired of masturbating to pass the time, so I got to thinking, “Maybe I should try going out to a bar or something.” The evening is still young. I could gussy myself up and put on that really nice Guess shirt that I bought yesterday. I could go out and mingle—I am single after all. But then again, I don’t really enjoy going out, especially not by myself.

I’ve been looking around online and have been talking to a few guys here and there. Some are nice, some are okay, but there is this one guy in particular that I have a sort of fascination with. He’s actually a coworker in public relations who sits not too far from my desk. I know very little about him, and we’ve hardly exchanged words, and yet I find myself daydreaming about him all day and all night. I came across his profile on Match by accident one evening, and decided to skip the “wink” and send him a brief email instead:

I wouldn’t normally skip the wink and go straight to an email, but I thought, “What the hell!” I’m in a new apartment, in a new city, and in a new job, so I’ve been all for taking leaps lately. You seem like a decent guy around the office, so maybe you’d like to chat sometime or go out for coffee—far away from the office.

That was yesterday, and still no response. According to Match, the email hasn’t been opened yet, so I still have my fingers crossed. Until then, I’ve been finding every excuse in the world to walk past his desk. Unfortunately, he hasn’t noticed.

I got hit on today when I went shopping at Z Gallerie. I was wearing my “Start a Love Story” t-shirt that I got from Match, and a sales associate in his late 30s said, “Oh, I thought you were asking if I wanted to start a love story, and I was going to say let’s go.” He smiled.

It was nice. A little creepy, but nice.

By-the-way, I’m absolutely loving my new apartment!
